HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A 53-year-old man was sentenced on Tuesday to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a 2021 shooting, the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office said.

Cory Crandell pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and battery, the solicitor’s office said. He shot a man in the parking lot of a North Myrtle Beach gas station on Nov. 2, 2021.

Crandell fled the scene but was arrested by North Myrtle Beach police within minutes, according to the solicitor’s office. He pleaded guilty just before his trial was supposed to start.

“North Myrtle Beach Police Department did an incredible job bringing the defendant to justice before anyone else could get hurt,” Solicitor Jimmy Richardson said in a news release.
