Surfside Beach mayor to rappel 17 stories to raise money for Horry County charity

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Surfside Beach Mayor Robert Krouse will go “over the edge” of a North Myrtle Beach resort to help raise money for a local organization.

New Directions of Horry County, an organization that sets out to combat homelessness, poverty, and addiction, is hosting “Over the Edge” on Saturday. The event at the 17-story Avista Resort aims to raise funds and awareness for those in need across the community.

Over the Edge raises $56K for Horry County charity

Krouse is asking his town’s residents to show their support by donating to or attending the event, which can be done in-person or virtually. He is set to rappel around 10 a.m.

“Mayor Krouse’s commitment to Surfside Beach and his willingness to take on this challenge shows the depth of his compassion for those in need,” Tabitha Mull, communications coordinator for the town of Surfside Beach said. “We’re proud to support his efforts and encourage the entire community to rally behind him. Every donation helps change a life.”
