30,000 Mustang enthusiasts ride into Myrtle Beach for Mustang Week

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Tens of thousands of Mustang enthusiasts have made their way to the Grand Strand this week to celebrate the vehicle’s 60th anniversary.

This weeklong event is one of the largest in the U.S., bringing in about $30 million in revenue.

For the past couple of years, the Mustang Week Car Show has been at the Myrtle Beach Mall.

This year marks 60 years of the iconic muscle car, with the first Mustang being unveiled at the New York World’s Fair on April 17, 1964.

This year, 800 Mustangs were in the car show and more than 30,000 people have been in attendance this week.

“We have people coming in from Germany, Quebec, and a lot of people are from North Carolina — like me,” Power Auto Media Vice President of Content and Strategy Parker Scott said. “A lot of people are also from the Northeast and from Florida.”

Scott said they try to incorporate local workers, businesses, and organizations, with one of those being the Horry County Animal Shelter.

“This is a free show so, really, the money we make is from merchandise for the most part, and a little bit of money from the vendors to cover our costs and stuff,” he said. “Really the show is about building community.”
