Plane loses door, makes emergency landing in South Carolina

( NewsNation ) — A small aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in South Carolina after the door of the plane fell into a resident’s yard, federal aviation officials said.

The plane, a Diamond DA40, landed eight minutes after it took off from Myrtle Beach International Airport on Tuesday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration . The landing was required after the door of the aircraft fell into a residential yard in The Market Common.

Data from the flight-tracking website FlightAware indicated that the plane took off at 2:53 p.m. on Tuesday and landed at 3:01 p.m. The plane was initially scheduled to land at Florence Regional Airport.

The single-engine plane, which is owned by an Indianapolis company, sustained minor damage, according to the FAA. According to NewsNation local affiliate WBTW , two people aboard the plane were not injured. The aircraft sustained minor damage, according to the FAA.

Another small plane that is registered to the same Indiana company was also forced to make an emergency landing in South Carolina in May, the television station reported.
