Tropical moisture moves in to end the week

Clouds stick around as inland temperatures remain above average. Partly sunny skies will continue today as temperatures top out around average for the coast in the low 80s, mid to upper 80s inland. Isolated rain chances today, mainly inland, with coverage increasing throughout the day on Thursday.

A cold front is expected to move to our north Thursday morning as a huge trough digs across the plains. This trough is going to help steer soon-to-be Helene. Tropical moisture is expected to funnel up from the south Thursday night and Friday morning from the Gulf of Mexico. Rainfall expected 1-3″. Tornadoes and coastal flooding could also be a threat.

As of 5 a.m., the National Hurricane Center still has this area classified as Potential Tropical Cyclone 9. It is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Helene today. Most forecast models have Helene strengthening into a major hurricane before making landfall Thursday evening.
