Human remains found in wooded area near Murrells Inlet, deputies say

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Human remains were found Tuesday in a wooded area near Murrells Inlet, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said the remains were found in an area off Wesley Road. The Georgetown County Coroner’s Office is at the scene.

Coroner Chase Ridgeway told News13 the remains had been there for a few weeks, but he doesn’t know if they were a male or female. He said an autopsy will be scheduled to determine the manner of death and that he can’t say if foul play was involved or not.

The person still had their shoes on when they were found, according to a News13 reporter at the scene. EMS was not at the scene, but six law enforcement vehicles were.

No additional information was immediately available. Count on News13 for updates.
