Officer injured & 2 pending extraditions after Henry Co. police chase

The sheriff’s office in Henry County, VA announced that a Sept. 21 police chase led the arrest of a passenger who was a North Carolina fugitive while the driver became a fugitive who was captured in Myrtle Beach.

The chase

At about 2:11 p.m., a deputy recognized a white Buick on Greensboro Rd. that was reportedly involved in a larceny at a local business and ran the license plate, but it came back with information that didn’t match the vehicle, Henry County Sheriff’s Office stated.

That led the deputy to attempt a traffic stop. However, the driver of the Buick accelerated to “a very high rate of speed” and, according to HCSO, “began driving in a reckless manner.”

The chase reportedly went from Greensboro Rd. to Main St. to Highway 87 where the Buick was heading toward North Carolina. At the intersection of Vista View Ln. and Hwy. 87, HCSO said one of its deputies performed the P.I.T. maneuver causing the Buick to lose traction and slide into the embankment.

Deputy injured

HCSO revealed the deputy who performed the P.I.T. maneuver was injured after getting out of the patrol vehicle to approach because “the suspect’s vehicle rolled forward and pinned the deputy’s leg between the suspect’s vehicle and his patrol vehicle.”
