Community dances to live music at first concert in Market Common park honoring veterans

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)– People weren’t just walking in the park Sunday afternoon, they were dancing.

As community members gathered for a concert in the park to honor local veterans, whether they were sitting down and listening to the funk and Motown or passing by, it was hard not to dance along.

The free concert with the Caravan of Stars band was from noon until 3 p.m. at the Grand Park lawn off Farrow Parkway in The Market Common.

“We had a lot of dancing today, it was an awesome event,” organizer Susan Koch said. “We set this up to honor our veterans, and what better place than an old Air Force base. It shows you too that the community wants events like this and the community wants to see us honoring our veterans and the spouses and the families that are all part of that as well.”

It was the first year for the concert, and Koch said she hopes to continue it to kick off Veterans Day celebrations for years to come.
