Severe Thunderstorms Marching Across Parts of South Carolina, North Carolina, and Florida

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch Has Been Issued Until 5pm EST Across Parts of North Carolina

12/29/24 12:51pm EST

Good afternoon everyone. We continue to watch a line of strong to severe thunderstorms progress to the east/northeast from yesterday’s action across the South and Gulf Coast.

Today, we’re watching that line march through parts of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Flroida as the majority of the action has already exited off of Georgia. Across North & South Carolina, we’re watching strong to severe thunderstorms nearing the Myrtle Beach area, Wilmington, eventually into Greenville & Morehead City, NC later today.

Special Marine Warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service for adjacent waters of Myrtle Beach for powerful storms capable of rough seas, strong winds, hail, torrential rain, and the risk of waterspouts. We’re also watching that line trail down across north Florida, nearing St. Augustine, Daytona Beach, and will eventually impacting Orlando.

All in all, look for the risk of damaging winds, large hail, frequent lighting, torrenital rain, and brief tornadoes. Things will eventually settle down, but as low pressure heads to the north/northeast, we could see some heavy showers and thunderstorms fire up across parts of Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania; where isolated severe weather is possible as well.
