1 of Horry County Police Department’s 8 original officers dies on New Year’s Eve

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — One of the Horry County Police Department’s eight original officers, retired Maj. Herman Enzor Sr., died on New Year’s Eve, the department said.

Enzor, 91, worked in the department from 1958 to 1998 and remained involved in the community after his retirement.

“He made an impact on this county and left behind a legacy of leadership that will live on for years to come,” Horry County police spokeswoman Mikayla Moskov said. “He will be dearly missed.”

In addition to his time in law enforcement, Enzor also served in the National Guard and was a deacon at the Spring Branch Baptist Church for more than 50 years.

According to the county government website, HCPD was established by legislative decree in 1959 as the county’s primary law enforcement agency. It remains the only county police department in South Carolina.

Enzor’s funeral will be on Monday at the Spring Branch Baptist Church in Nichols. For more information, click here for his obituary.
