State rescinds $111 million for car battery plant in Florence Co.

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — The State Fiscal Accountability Authority voted Tuesday to approve a request to rescind $111 million in bonds for AESC’s upcoming electric car battery plant in Florence.

The Joint Bond Review Committee and the State Fiscal Accountability Authority authorized up to an additional $111 million in state development bonds last March to support the project’s $1.5 billion expansion of operations by AESC.

The money was to be used in support of the expanded project to help offset the costs of additional off-site infrastructure and site preparation, subterranean construction support and an expanded training center…
