FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Four people charged in a child abuse investigation at the Maranatha Christian School in Florence County were in court for the first time on Tuesday.
Laurin B. Boyce, 73, of Florence, Jessica Elmore, 33, of Florence, Dawn Kirven, 42, of Lamar, and Lee B. Patrick, 54, of Florence appeared together in the Effingham Magistrate Court for a bond hearing.
Boyce, a daycare worker at the school on W. Palmetto Street, was denied bond and will remain in the Florence County Detention Center. Elmore, Kirven, who is the school’s principal, and Patrick, who is the school’s pastor, were all given $6,000 surety bonds.
Elmore and Kirven worked in the school’s nursery, while Patrick, held a “position of trust” at the school and was required to report abuse, deputies said…
