Horry County police chief wants stronger vehicle pursuit penalty on the books

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — It’s something that’s happening more often in Horry County: Drivers ignore a police officer’s lights and siren, instead leading them on a dangerous pursuit that could have fatal consequences.

Right now, anyone convicted of failing to stop for blue lights faces a misdemeanor that carries maximum punishments of a $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.
