Three South Carolina corrections officers caught in contraband and drug investigations. One hid the drugs in his dinner.

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — Three former South Carolina corrections officers have been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to trafficking contraband and drugs to inmates in two separate cases.

According to a statement from South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, the incidents occurred at the Tyger River and McCormick correctional institutions.

In one case, authorities said 37-year-old Kevin Leroy Howard pleaded guilty to trafficking methamphetamines, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, misconduct in office, and providing contraband to inmates. The charges stemmed from an incident in 2023 after Howard was arrested attempting to bring cylinders filled with drugs into the Tyger River facility by concealing them in his dinner.
