HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Crews on Day 14 of the 2,059-acre Covington Drive fire in Carolina Forest reached 70% containment, the South Carolina Forestry Commission said.

“Fire managers increased containment to 70% after another successful day of operations. Firefighters on the ground, with the assistance of aerial resources, continued to scout the fire area and apply water to cool hot spots,” the forestry commission said. “Residents may notice increased smoke [Friday] evening as a result of the humid air and incoming weather.”
