(WPDE) — The Tornado Watch that was issued for our whole area from 6:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday has since expired. However, that doesn’t mean the threat of severe weather is done.
The line of showers and thunderstorms that came through the Pee Dee and the Border Belt Sunday morning to midday was the bigger severe threat of the day, and that feature is what prompted the Watch. But storm motion changed today as the atmosphere isn’t as conducive for severe weather as previously thought.
Showers and storms this afternoon and early evening are rolling in from the south/southwest and moving to the north/northeast. This means the Weather Authority Team is watching areas south and southwest of the Pee Dee and Grand Strand for showers and thunderstorms. A lot of these are forming and then moving in quickly.
The atmosphere tells us a story as an event like this unfolds, and so far that story is that some key components needed to support severe weather aren’t in the Grand Strand, Pee Dee, or Border Belt. BUT, this could change…
