MARION, S.C. (WMBF) – A federal appeals court has upheld a man’s conviction for killing an Horry County woman nearly four years ago.
In a ruling published Wednesday, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Dominique Brand’s kidnapping, carjacking and weapons charge in connection to the death of Mary Ann Elvington.
In its opinion, the court ultimately disagreed with Brand’s appeal that there was insufficient evidence in the case.
Brand entered Elvington’s home in Nichols on March 28, 2021 – forcing her into a vehicle and making her drive him at gunpoint before killing her behind an abandoned grocery store.
He was tried and found guilty in September 2022 for kidnapping resulting in death, carjacking resulting in death, and using or carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence in a manner constituting murder…
