Man who burned cross next to Black neighbors’ home near Conway barred from having ‘nuisance’ property in South Carolina

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A man who pleaded guilty in January to harassing his Black neighbors by burning a cross that faced their home is now prohibited from “maintaining a nuisance” anywhere in South Carolina after an Horry County judge’s ruling on Monday.

The November 2023 cross-burning occurred at a property on Corbett Drive, where Worden Butler lived with his girlfriend, Alexis Hartnett. A temporary one-year injunction issued last March declared the property a nuisance and closed it.
