HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A jacket containing a handgun was unknowingly left in the lost-and-found at Loris Elementary School last month and remained there for 10 days before the gun was found by an employee who was helping a parent look for an item, according to a Loris police report.
Dennis Larry Grate, 65, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with carrying guns on school property and filing a false police report in connection with the gun. Grate is not an Horry County Schools employee, spokesperson Lisa Bourcier said in an email statement to News13.
“Last week, Loris Elementary staff members discovered a random coat left outside of the school,” Bourcier said. “Upon inspection, a small handgun was in one of the pockets.
