After the South Carolina Gamecocks ‘ big win against the Texas Longhorns on April 4, head coach Dawn Staley gave her honest opinion about head football coach Shane Beamer. He — and other members of the Gamecocks community — have been extremely supportive of the women’s basketball team, she shared.
“We have a great community,” Staley said in a post-game press conference . “We really lean on each other. Coach Beamer’s always at — I don’t know how he finds the time — but he’s at every sports game.”
She went on to talk about how supportive the entire Gamecocks community has been to her women’s basketball team.
“It’s a community of people that allow us to impact far more than just the young people that are in our locker room,” she said. “It is a far reach. And I’m glad I represent the University of South Carolina athletics department, the state of South Carolina, the city of Columbia, because they give so much more to our program and the experience that our players are getting… Since I’ve been at South Carolina, this is my 17th year — [their support] has been awesome. I want to bottle it up and give it to other women’s basketball programs because you’re valued a little bit different when you’re able to produce a little revenue.”…
