Crews still working hotspots, smoldering fire in Carolina Forest blaze

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County Fire Rescue and the South Carolina Forestry Commission are still working hotspots and a smoldering fire underground in the Covington Drive blaze in Carolina Forest.

Friday marked Day 42 of the blaze, which is still at 90% containment. Horry County Fire Rescue’s wildfire coordinator called the ground in the area “boggy,” meaning the land is a bit marshy, but makes it a challenge to get the wildfire to 100% containment.
