Conway scrambles for new funding after FEMA halts grant for flood prevention project

CONWAY, S.C. (WPDE) — In 2021, the City of Conway received a $2.17 million dollar grant through FEMA’s building resilient infrastructure and communities program for the Chestnut Bay Resiliency Project.

The project was designed to create a Carolina Bay in the Crabtree Swamp area, which has battled intense flooding many times.

The project was designed to help soak up water after major flooding events, but it’s now halted after FEMA ended the Bric Program earlier this month…
