COLUMBIA, S.C. — If you live in South Carolina and haven’t finished filing your taxes yet, you are in luck. This year, the federal and state tax deadlines are May 1.
The decision at both levels resulted from Hurricane Helene in mid-2024. That means any filings or payments are due by May 1 rather than mid-April. The relief applies to all counties in South Carolina. According to the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR), due dates extended to Feb. 3, 2025, due to Hurricane Debby are also postponed to May 1 for state taxes. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) said the postponement for Debby-related relief until May 1 also applies to federal taxes.
While the 2024 tax extension until May 1 applies to all South Carolina filers, the Hurricane Debby return postponement applies specifically to people who filed for a valid extension to their 2023 taxes. People who didn’t get an extension don’t qualify for the May 1 deadline on that year’s filing…
