Carolina Western Pub announces potential closure due to SC liquor liability laws

Known for its large dance floor and live music, Carolina Western Pub, located at 920 Lady St. in the Vista, may soon be joining the ranks of numerous other establishments that have been forced to close their doors due to South Carolina’s current liquor liability laws and the cost of maintaining liquor liability insurance.

Liquor liability insurance offers protection to businesses that sell or serve alcohol from financial losses due to alcohol-related incidents and covers claims for bodily injury or property damage caused by an intoxicated person that was served or sold alcohol by the insured business. Insured businesses include bars, restaurants, liquor stores, convenience stores and event venues.

Under South Carolina’s current liquor law, the owner of any business licensed to serve alcohol for on-premises consumption after 5 p.m. is required to carry at least a $1 million dollar liquor liability insurance policy…
