MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — State forestry officials are battling a flare-up that sparked in Carolina Forest Monday afternoon near Covington Drive wildfire site.
Agency spokesman Doug Wood told News13 just after 5:30 p.m. that the scene is active, and about an acre in size.
“Forestry Commission crews, who are already on scene at the Covington Drive Fire conducting mop-up operations, are aware of the flare-up near Walker Woods and are providing response. They say the parcel in question is about an acre to an acre-and-a-half, and they are working to strengthen containment lines around this area,” Wood said. “This is not unexpected or out of the ordinary, as the soil in these bays has continued to smolder for weeks, and today’s winds have contributed to fanning the flames.”…
