State trooper suspended after Horry County arrest, agency confirms

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A state trooper is out on bond and suspended from his job after being arrested in Horry County on an assault charge.

A Horry County police report shows the victim told an officer he got into a fight with Rashaad Chestnut around 4 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of an IGA grocery store off Highway 90 near Pint Creek Road in Longs.

In a statement, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety said that Chestnut holds the rank of trooper first class and was assigned to Troop Five, which includes Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Marion, Marlboro and Williamsburg counties. Chestnut first started working for the South Carolina Highway Patrol in July 2023, the statement revealed.
