COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) – South Carolina is one of two states without a hate crime law. This bill, if passed, would add extra punishment for certain crimes if motivated by hate or bias.
The bill would increase the penalty for someone who commits a violent crime and or assault by a mob in the second degree. If you target someone because of their race, color, religion, sex, gender, national orientation, or disability, the penalty could also go up to $10,000 in additional fees and up to five extra years in prison.
