FBI still investigating Orton Bellamy case; SLED ends role in ‘public corruption case involving threatening letters’

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — The FBI is continuing an investigation that led authorities to question a former Horry County Councilman at his Conway home earlier this year , but the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has ended its role in the case.

FBI spokesman Kevin Wheeler told News13 on Thursday that the investigation “is still ongoing” but said no other updates were available.

On Friday, News13 received a status report from SLED dated Feb. 10, which indicated that the agency was ending its role in the “public corruption case involving threatening letters.” The document said “no further assistance [was] needed” and that the case was “being submitted for closure.”…
