Local plant sale encourages gardeners to swap invasive species for native plants

CONWAY, S.C. (WPDE) — The Grand Strand Chapter of the South Carolina Native Plant Society held their spring plant sale on Saturday morning.

The Society hopes to use sales like these to promote gardeners to replace their invasive plants with native plants, which includes things that the bugs and animals in our area know and like.

Plants for sale included coreopsis, mountain mint, blanket flower and lots of shrubs like beauty berry, which birds love.

South Carolina has an official invasive species list, and many things like Chinese privet are still planted today. Nandina, which is toxic to birds, is still used in landscaping…
