The Loris City Council accepted a petition for annexation for a 360-acre tract of land behind the Loris High School, setting in motion a process that could result in the construction 530 new single-family homes.
Council voted unanimously to forward the proposal from Heritage Lake Holding Ventures, LLC, to the Loris Planning Commission for consideration and a recommendation.
Area residents living in low-lying areas surrounding the tract flooded into the council chambers Monday, May 5, to object to the plan, claiming that stormwater runoff from the development would exacerbate flash flooding from rain storms, and cause a host of other problems.
