Mobile pool brings free swim lessons to rural communities

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – As summer approaches, leaders across the Lowcountry are working to keep children safe in and around the water. The YMCA of Coastal Carolina has launched a mobile swimming pool initiative to bring free swim lessons to kids in rural areas, just in time for the heat.

The portable pool is part of the YMCA’s “Splash Safe” campaign, a summer-long effort that partners with local organizations to make water safety more accessible for families in Georgetown, Williamsburg, and Horry Counties.

“The YMCA of Coastal Carolina has a strategic plan for the next five years, and one of our top priorities is to make swim lessons accessible to everyone,” said Hatton Gravely, one of the campaign’s organizers. “This mobile pool helps us reach families in rural areas who don’t have access to a public pool.”…
