Rain chances continue today

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — We have a soggy Thursday coming up for the area. Overnight rain has continued this morning along the Grand Strand. As you move westward into the Pee Dee and Border Belt, rain is more scattered. We are battling some dry air from a high pressure off the Mid-Atlantic coast. This is causing rainfall rates not to be as heavy as we had forecast yesterday. It is still very warm and muggy at the surface.

As we go throughout Thursday, a weak low-pressure system will continue to track close to the southeast coast. This will bring waves of scattered rain and possibly a few thunderstorms through the area, so expect to see on-and-off showers and mainly cloudy skies. As we head into the afternoon and evening, the low-pressure system will begin to exit the region. On the back side, we could see a burst of convection between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. That could lead to one last round of heavy rain and some thunderstorms. Lows tonight will be in the upper 60s inland, around 70 at the coast.

Friday looks to be a nice day across the area. We will see partly cloudy skies as drier air works in from the northwest. It could be a little breezy from time to time with just a very small shot of seeing an isolated thunderstorm. Highs will be warmer as the coastal areas will be in the mid to upper 80s.
