MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Myrtle Beach city leaders approved the second and final reading of two developments to officially keep the Pelicans on the Grand Strand for the next 30 years as council chambers erupted with applause from fans.
The council on Tuesday passed second reading of two ordinances that give Myrtle Beach total ownership of Pelicans Ballpark amid an $8.25 million offer by Horry County in exchange for ending its part, as well as an ordinance to extend the stadium’s lease by 30 years.
The facility, which is in need of $20 million in improvements to come into compliance with Major League Baseball standards, is currently 70% owned by the city and 30% by the county.
