(Columbia, SC) — South Carolina is scheduled to carry out the execution of Stephen Stanko tonight unless the Governor intervenes. This comes after a federal judge denied his attorneys’ request to halt the execution. Stanko was sentenced to death in two separate cases. On April 7th of 2005, Stanko beat and strangled his girlfriend Laura Ling in Georgetown County. He also raped Ling’s teenaged daughter before cutting her throat. The girl survived.
