SLED’s probe into deadly officer-involved shooting in downtown Myrtle Beach still ‘active and ongoing’

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s investigation into a deadly officer-involved shooting on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach is still ongoing almost two months later, a spokesperson told News13 on Wednesday.

The spokesperson said SLED’s investigation is “active and ongoing” and that “more information may be available in the future.” The shooting, which happened two months ago on Thursday, killed 18-year-old Jerrius Davis of Bennettsville and injured 11 others after police dashcam footage showed Davis opening fire into a crowd.

The officer who returned fire at Davis is Brandon O’Rourke, Myrtle Beach Police Chief Amy Prock said. He has since returned to work on paid administrative duty as SLED’s investigation continues. O’Rourke has worked with Myrtle Beach police for seven and a half years.

The other two officers who witnessed the shooting were Mohamed El-Helwi, who has been with the department for two years, and Jeramiah Johnson, who has been with the department for four years. Both were on paid administrative leave but have since returned to work full duty.
