MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Yesterday’s Weather Alert Day yielded thousands of lightning strikes, a severe thunderstorm warning in Horry County, and multiple wind damage reports, mostly impacting trees. A home on Forestbrook Road was damaged after lightning struck, causing a house fire. Thankfully, there were no injuries.
Temperatures are normal this morning, and it feels a little better outside, with temperatures in the lower 70s. There will be patchy fog this morning in isolated areas. Temperatures will be spot-on today — 88 at the coast and 90 to 92 for inland.
It is not going to be as stormy today. There is no threat of severe weather, though there is still a 5% risk of excessive rainfall. Storms will be less widespread today but still spotty throughout the afternoon. This is the trend through the weekend.
The Lumber River has climbed to moderate flood stage and is nearly at 18 feet this morning. This is pretty impactful for communities surrounding the river. At 18 feet, floodwaters deepen in the Pines and Coxs Pond areas as well as along River Road. Floodwaters may affect Carthage Road. Several homes will become isolated or inundated between the Pepsi plant and the river. Chickenfoot Road, Hestertown Road, and Noir Street will likely be closed…
