HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County Schools has offered three families $125,000 each to settle an April 2024 child-abuse lawsuit against the district and two of its educators, records show.
The families were among those who sued the district and Rebecca Schroyer, who was the principal at Ocean Bay Elementary School at the time, and Grace McColgan, a now-former special-education teacher at the school. It accused them of gross negligence, negligent misrepresentation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and civil conspiracy.
Schroyer and McColgan were arrested on Nov. 2, 2022. Arrest warrants accused Schroyer of knowing about abuse allegations against McColgan and not reporting them to authorities as required by law. Criminal charges against Schroyer were dropped in April 2024, shortly before the lawsuits were filed…
