Conway man gets life in prison for 2023 armed robbery, solicitor’s office says

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Conway man facing a murder charge has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of robbing a woman in a separate incident in 2023, the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office said Thursday.

Chriwanta Bryant, 30, was found guilty on Tuesday of armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime after a two-day trial. Circuit Court Judge Alex Hyman sentenced Bryant to life in prison without parole under South Carolina’s Habitual Offender Act because he was previously convicted of armed robbery in 2014, according to the solicitor’s office.

Officers responded on Feb. 8, 2023, for a call about an armed robbery that happened along Highway 544 near Conway. The victim told police she didn’t have cash on her when Bryant approached her and that he had her send his girlfriend $200 via CashApp…
