MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A Myrtle Beach-based lifeguarding company found liable for the 2018 drowning death of a Maryland man remains on the hook for one of the largest wrongful death payouts in South Carolina history.
The state’s Court of Appeals on Wednesday upheld a 2023 jury verdict against Lack’s Beach Service that awarded nearly $21 million to Zerihun Wolde’s estate.
“As discussed throughout this opinion, we find there was plentiful evidence that Lack’s repeatedly and knowingly breached the standard of care for professional lifeguards in multiple ways,” the three-judge panel concluded…
