A small break from the heat

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — For the first time in five days, there is not a widespread heat alert. There is a heat advisory in Scotland County this afternoon. Temperatures are 4 to 7 degrees cooler than yesterday morning, and there is some fog, especially west of Interstate 95. The heat index at 5 a.m. on Tuesday was 95 degrees in Myrtle Beach; this morning, it was 81 degrees, so much better.

Temperatures will still be warm today, but overall better than yesterday. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s at the coast and mid-90s inland. Humidity is high with the heat index up to 104 degrees today. Scattered showers and thunderstorms reappear this afternoon, with extreme downpours and an abundance of lightning. Rainfall totals yesterday in Socastee measured 2 to 2.5 inches.

Stormy afternoons will continue to dominate headlines tomorrow and on Friday. Friday’s rainfall will be sourced from a cold front pushing through. Temperatures will be a little warmer on Friday and near heat advisory criteria, but the front will bring welcomed changes for the weekend, dipping temperatures into the mid-80s.
