HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) –Horry County has placed 10 new microchip scanners at different locations in the county to help identify stray animals and reunite lost pets with their owners.
With Horry County animal shelters at or over their capacity, county officials are hoping these new scanners will help alleviate some of the stress on shelter staff, resources and with overcrowding.
“The animal care center has 304 total animals in our care. Out of that 300 number, more than 100 of these pets came to us by way of stray intake,” Horry County spokeswoman Adrianna Seals said. “It’s a project that we are hoping will help not only educate our community about what resources are out there when it comes to stray pets, but also hopefully help keep some of these pets out of our area shelters just to help alleviate some of the load.”…
