Conway gives final OK to annexing former energy plant site

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – The city of Conway can officially move forward with its plans to redevelop the site of a former energy plant.

City council approved an ordinance under the consent agenda Monday to annex around 533 acres of the property known as Lake Busbee from low and medium-density residential to conservation preservation.

The property, which sits on Highway 501 East and was transferred from Santee Cooper, was home to the 1960s-era power plant Grainger Generating Station that was decommissioned in 2012…
