HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A fifth person has been charged and a sixth is expected to be in connection with the killing of an 11-year-old girl in June, Horry County police said on Monday.
A’Kyri Bell died on June 13 at a Carolina Forest hospital of head injuries, authorities said. Police initially arrested Camisha McGaskey, the girl’s guardian and a distant cousin, with obstruction of justice, before upgrading the charge to murder.
The following people have been charged with unlawful conduct toward a child in connection with Bell’s death:
- Lakesha Burnett (two counts)
- Alantis Thomas (two counts)
- Darnell Dearmus (one count)
- Margaret Roberson (three counts)
- Camisha McGaskey (three counts)
Police said a sixth person, whose name was not immediately available, is expected to face the same charges “shortly.” Roberson was already in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center after being charged by SLED with five counts of trafficking in persons.
Burnett, Thomas, and Dearmus were arrested Tuesday morning after a search warrant was served, police said. Burnett and Thomas were previously charged with obstruction of justice in Bell’s death but were out on home detention at the time of the additional charges…
