MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Recent heavy rain is leading to rising water levels along the Waccamaw River with minor flooding forecast to develop.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington NC has issued a Flood Warning for the Waccamaw River near Longs and the Waccamaw River At Conway.
On Tuesday morning, the Waccamaw River in Conway was at 10.7 feet. Flood stage is 11 feet. The river is expected to rise above flood stage Wednesday morning and continue rising to a crest of near 11.4 feet Saturday evening. Additional rises are possible thereafter.
At 11.0 feet, water will begin to cause minor flooding of yards and a few roads in the Lees Landing, Pitch Landing, Savannah Bluff, and Riverfront South communities. Areas along Waccamaw Circle and Riverside Drive may also begin to flood. Low areas along Gray Oaks Drive may begin to flood. Access to Hidden River Road may be cutoff. Overflow of vast uninhabited swamp and natural boat landings will occur.
For the Waccamaw River at Longs, flood state is 12 feet and the river is currently at 12 feet. The river is expected to rise above flood stage late this afternoon and continue rising to a crest of 12.5 feet Thursday morning…
