4-vehicle crash on Highway 22 leads to critical injuries, Horry County Fire Rescue says

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Critical injuries have been reported after a four-vehicle crash that led to one of the vehicles catching on fire and another falling into the Waccamaw River, Horry County Fire Rescue said.

It happened on Highway 22 near the Waccamaw River, just east of Highway 905, and all Aynor-bound lanes of traffic are currently blocked, HCFR said. The crash involved a commercial vehicle, which caught on fire. The fire has been extinguished.

Crews are working to remove one of the vehicles from the water below, HCFR said. Authorities responded at 4:28 p.m.

An Horry County police spokesperson said the closure is expected to last several hours “at minimum.” An alternate route has been established via old Highway 31 East, which runs parallel to Highway 22 between Highway 90 and Highway 905…
