Boom at the Beach: First responders keep pace with booming call volume

Horry County’s first responders’ call volume is growing alongside a fast-expanding population, but public safety departments say they remain equipped to serve the public with consistent support from county administrators.

Horry County Fire Rescue’s annual call volume has grown by more than 20,000 calls in the past five years and, with the influx of residents and subsequent traffic conditions, HCFR spokesperson Tony Casey said the department is proud to report ambulance response times remain in line with the national average, just under nine minutes.
