South Carolina AG asks Upstate solicitor to review Scott Spivey road rage case

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) – State Attorney General Alan Wilson last week asked a South Carolina solicitor to review evidence in a deadly 2023 Horry County road rage case, even though his office previously said it was self-defense.

The death of Tabor City, North Carolina, resident Scott Spivey on Sept. 9, 2023, in a shootout with North Myrtle Beach businessman Weldon Boyd and his friend Kenneth Williams sparked multiple investigations by the Horry County Police Department, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and Wilson’s office.

Wilson ruled in August that the state’s stand your ground law was applicable when Boyd shot and killed Spivey on Camp Swamp Road in the Loris area, but on Friday, Wilson wrote a letter to 7th Circuit Solicitor Barry J. Barnette asking him to review his ruling and other parts of the investigation, including accusations of misconduct on the part of Horry County police.
