HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A flood advisory for parts of coastal and eastern Horry County lapsed Sunday afternoon as heavy rainfall that closed roads and slowed traffic moved out of the area.
Garden City, Myrtle Beach and parts of Socastee were included in the advisory. The rain came after Saturday’s king tides caused significant erosion along the North Myrtle Beach shorefront.
Coastal flooding is still possible today across the lower portions of the coastal areas. Water levels will not be as high as Saturday. However, impacts to Pawleys Island, Cherry Grove, and Little River are possible. As of Sunday afternoon, flash flood warnings have been issued for Georgetown.
“With Sunday’s excessive rain amounts, Myrtle Beach’s stormwater system is overwhelmed in certain areas of the city. We are aware of road closures and ponding at 24th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard, 24th Avenue North and Withers Drive, 24th Avenue South and Kings Highway and these areas below in the north end of town,” the city said in a Facebook post…
