Horry County food banks see rise in food assistance and donations amid SNAP benefit freeze

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — SNAP benefits are officially frozen for those who rely on the federal food aid program because of the government shutdown.

Horry County food banks like Lowcountry Food Bank say in two days since Nov. 1 they’ve seen the need increase as well as community members stepping up to the plate to help their neighbors.

They say they’ve been hard at work making sure they meet the needs of 55,000 people in food insecure situations just in Horry County. This weekend was just the beginning of what is a tough time for many right now…
