Carolina Forest mom organizes food drive amid government shutdown delays

CAROLINA FOREST, SC (WMBF) – A Carolina Forest mother is organizing a community food drive to help families struggling with food insecurity as government shutdown delays affect federal aid programs.

Angela Lucas started the initiative after posting about a ‘mini food store’ idea in a Carolina Forest Facebook group on Nov. 1, prompting several community members to donate food and money for more groceries.

“I thought about the government shutdown, food stamps, and people struggling, and it was just like this ache in my chest, like people are going to struggle,” Lucas said. “What about a child who comes and says, Mommy, I’m hungry tonight, and mom says, I don’t have anything to feed you.”…
